The Alfa Romeo Tonale will have been little more than a brief visitor. The model, unveiled in 2022 as a 2023 product, won’t be coming back for 2027. Stellantis Canada has confirmed that ordering will stop as of June 30, and that production for the North American market will end in August.

The Tonale accounted for 266 of those sales, a 50% decline from the year before
The turbocharged 2.0-litre engine (268 horsepower, 295 lb-ft of torque) had been the only option left since the plug-in hybrid version was discontinued
The irony is that the Tonale had become the brand’s third model and was meant to account for half of Alfa’s sales in this country. It was, in a way, the company’s saviour. Yet barely three years after its arrival, its run is already over.
In its official statement, the automaker points to a “planned transition phase” meant to align the brand’s lineup with evolving market conditions. In plain terms, the Tonale simply wasn’t finding buyers anymore. The sales figures speak for themselves. In 2025, the Tonale found 266 buyers in Canada, down 50% from 2024 (a year that had actually posted a 6% gain). Things clearly aren’t going well for Alfa Romeo, which sold just 660 vehicles in the country in 2025, 25% fewer than the year before.
Add to that the fact that the only genuinely “interesting” version of the Tonale, the plug-in hybrid variant, had already disappeared from the lineup.
It’s a sign of deeper trouble within Stellantis.
That leaves the Giulia sedan and the Stelvio SUV on the roster, the brand’s two oldest products. New versions are reportedly in the works for both, built on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform. They’re expected to arrive with a range of powertrains, including a plug-in hybrid, for the 2028 model year.
All of this remains highly speculative, and given how things have been unfolding at Stellantis, everything needs to be taken with a healthy dose of caution. We always hope to see a brand succeed, since a disappearance sets off a domino effect that leads to job losses, which is never a good thing.
Time will tell what comes next, but it’s clear Alfa Romeo already has two strikes against it.
