Will this urban and electric crossover come to North America?
Will it com with a PHEV drivetrain?
Despite the recent arrival of the Tonale plug-in hybrid model, Alfa Romeo needs to continue its switch to electric drive by improving the number of models that can be recharged with electrons.
To achieve this, the Italian division intends to enter the category of very small electric crossovers. In fact, as the British magazine Autocar reports, Alfa Romeo has just launched a social networking campaign to find a name for this future urban vehicle.
The name “Brennero” had already been suggested in the past, but it seems that Alfa Romeo’s strategists have changed their minds on this point.
According to the automotive publication, this future urban crossover will be based on the skeleton of the Jeep Avenger, recently introduced to the European market. The mission of this future purely electric vehicle will be to attract a new clientele to the brand’s showrooms and remove the image of Alfa Romeo as a brand reserved for middle-aged men.
This new model, which has not even been presented yet, is due to arrive on the roads of continental Europe in the summer of 2024. Smaller than the Tonale, this other utility model should therefore be less expensive to buy than the plug-in hybrid crossover. Moreover, since it will be based on the same foundations as the Jeep Avenger, this future Alfa Romeo model should also come with an estimated range (between recharges) of 250 miles (or 402 km).
It now remains to be seen whether this other Alfa Romeo crossover will be made available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, and whether it will cross the Atlantic Ocean, as time is running out for Alfa Romeo, which has already announced that it will go into 100% EV mode in 2027.
