All-Electric 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S Debuts In NYC

  • The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S will arrive in the U.S. and select Canadian regions this fall. Reservations open on May 31st.

  • 600 horsepower, 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds.

  • Driving range pegged at more than 300 miles or 480 km on a full charge.

Back in September 2022, Stellantis announced the eventual arrival of several fully electric models in the Jeep brand’s lineup by 2025. Two of those will be offered in North America, the first one being the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S that just debuted during a media event in New York City.

This new global-market crossover is the third model in Jeep portfolio to wear the Wagoneer badge. Unlike the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer full-size body-on-frame SUVs, however, the Wagoneer S is a midsize vehicle, boasting a footprint similar to that of the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S boasts a two-motor setup, creating an all-wheel drivetrain, or 4xe in Jeep speak. Output is rated at a combined 600 horsepower and 617 pound-feet of torque, allowing the luxury crossover to nail the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) dash in 3.4 seconds. That’s Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid acceleration territory, which belts out 729 hp and 700 pound-feet. Even the dearly departed Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and its 707-hp supercharged 6.2L Hellcat V8 was slower to 60 mph, albeit by just a tenth of a second.

2024 Jeep Wagoneer S Launch Edition

Built on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform dedicated to BEVs, the Wagoneer S is equipped with a 400-volt, 100.5 kWh battery pack, providing an estimated driving range of at least 300 miles or 480 kilometres on a full charge. The brand says the battery can be charged from 20% to 80% in as little as 23 minutes, depending on the DC Fast Charge station’s capability. A CCS charge port will be installed for the time being, as the folks from Stellantis said an NACS (Tesla’s charging standard) connector won’t arrive for a couple of years.

The crossover’s exterior design is more sporty than rugged, boasting a new variation of Jeep’s traditional seven-slot grille. Instead of grille openings, which wouldn’t be functional on an EV, stylists used cast lighting to illuminate seven indents, a clever way to move the signature grille design forward. Compared to the regular-length Grand Cherokee, the Wagoneer S is about an inch shorter in overall length and rides on a 3.7-inch-shorter wheelbase. It’s also a couple of inches narrower and its roofline is five inches lower. Ground clearance is rated at a very un-Jeep-like 6.4 inches (162 mm). This new model is clearly not focused for rock hopping.

And yet, the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S still features a Selec-Terrain management system with Auto, Sport, Eco, Snow and Sand drive modes to confront all types of on- and off-road surfaces. Towing capacity is rated at 3,400 pounds or 1,542 kilograms.

The Wagoneer S Launch Edition will be introduced first, featuring a darkened appearance with 20-inch Gloss Black wheels wrapped in 235/50R20 tires as well as Gloss Black and Dark Neutral Gray exterior trim, but no chrome. With a drag coefficient of 0.294, this new model is the most aerodynamic Jeep utility vehicle created so far, the company says.

As with the other Wagoneer models, the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S serves up a tastefully crafted interior, yet modern interior. The dashboard is decorated with red stitching and chiselled metal trim, as younger consumers aren’t big fans of wood trim, along with black ceramic-coated aluminum housing haptic controls. The company is proud to say that recycled resources and materials were used to dress up vehicle’s cabin, with non-leather upholstery adorning the seats, console, doors and instrument panel, in addition to a microfiber suede headliner. The carpets were made with recycled materials as well.

The Launch Edition also gets a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, customizable 64-colour LED ambient lighting, standard heated and ventilated seats front and rear, massaging front seats, a 12.3-inch digital driving instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment system touchscreen running the Uconnect 5 interface, and a front passenger-side 10.25-inch display. The digital climate control interface is placed down low on the centre stack, which hides a storage bin. Audio entertainment is provided by a 1,200-watt, 19-speaker McIntosh sound system. There are a couple of options, such as a Radar Red interior instead of Black, and a towing package.

The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S Launch Edition will hit U.S. EV-certified dealerships in the fall of 2024, as well as in the Canadian provinces of Quebec and British Colombia. It will reach other Canadian regions after production ramps up, before expanding its availability to global markets such as Europe and China. The new electric crossover will be built in Toluca, Mexico. The Wagoneer S Launch Edition is priced at $71,995 in the United States and at $91,790 in Canada, freight and delivery charges included, and reservations open on May 31st. Two other variants will arrive for the 2025 model year, including at least one more-affordable one.

The Wagoneer S will compete with the Acura ZDX, the Audi Q8 e-tron, the BMW iX, the Cadillac Lyriq and the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV. More will come soon.
