The future of Volkswagen R vehicles will be electrified.
The ID.3 R will get more powerful electric motors and a battery pack.
The ID.R is VW’s electric race car that set records at events worldwide.
The debate as to whether or not electric cars will be fun to drive or not is dead. As we all know, the power provided by electric motors, instant torque specifically, is addictive and can transform regular cars into tire-burning commuters. Volkswagen will take this one step further when they’ll blend ID.R Racer DNA with the compact electric ID.3 hatchback.
Early last fall, we’d reported that VW was seriously considering launching a sporty version of the Volkswagen ID.3 within the next five years. Now, in a story from AutoExpress, an ID.3 R is, or will be, a done deal. Thing is that, at least for the moment, Volkswagen R Boss, Jost Capito has said that “the performance parameters of the new ID.3 R are yet to be finalized – and that they won’t necessarily match up to the equivalent internal combustion-engined Volkswagen T-Roc R or Mk8 Golf R.”
He goes on to add that this ID.3 R won’t be a “straight copy” of the Rs we know today. Some elements will be heightened, others not, nothing is set in stone yet. According to the story, it will feature a front-mounted electric motor for AWD capabilities.
