Although Kia’s EV day was last Wednesday, South Korean time, the impact of the triple-reveal is still palpable. While the small Concept EV3 and Concept EV4 sedan hold tremendous promise in their respective segments, it’s the production ready EV5 compact SUV that really has momentum going for it.
In the main press releases from Kia, production of the EV5 will take place in both China and Korea, and the SUV will be destined for both markets. Hints that it is earmarked for the North American markets are circulating online however they vary slightly from one source to another.
The prevailing rumour is that the all-new Kia EV5 will come to North America, but more specifically to Canada and Mexico, and not the US, which sounds quite odd to us. We reached out to Kia Canada representatives for more information, and we got the following as a response:
“Kia is considering to export the EV5 to North America starting from 2025.”
This does not help exactly however the simple fact that dialogue on the EV5 for Canada exists is promising enough. By our estimates, all will be revealed very shortly, perhaps as early as next month’s LA auto show. About the pricing in the press release ($30,000 to $80,000 for existing and future models), we asked for confirmation if this was in US or Canadian currency. More than likely, it’s the former.
