The giant Stellantis may have used its time in New York this week to launch its largest Jeep vehicles ever offered to the public – the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer L and Jeep Grand Wagoneer L – but it shouldn’t lose sight of its electrification goal. Sure, the new luxury version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is a small step in the right direction, but to really tackle the problem, Stellantis needs pure electric volume.
And that volume will come in the form of a pickup truck, and it will be marketed within the Ram division. No surprises so far! Moreover, pickup truck fans will finally discover the first details of this future electric truck (expected in 2024) as soon as this year, the manufacturer who confirmed the news to the Motor1.com website contributors. Indeed, an electric Ram concept will be presented before the end of the year, according to what the publication has learned.
For now, no date has been given, but the unveiling has been confirmed before the end of the year, which in itself is already great news for the brand’s fans. The announcement was made by Ram CEO Mike Koval, who also confirmed that the brand’s strategists were busy taking the pulse of the public about the truck’s design at various events.
It’s a safe bet that the darkened images already shown by the automaker in recent months are those of the prototype that will be unveiled later this year. The final design of the vehicle will probably be influenced by the various opinions gathered by the brand’s people. Will that signature LED daytime running lights with that illuminated “R-A-M” badge remain on the production model? It’s safe to assume so, especially in light of the latest electric vehicles on the market.
Ram will have to make sure it offers an attractive vehicle, since the competition will already be well established in 2024 when the Ram 1500 EV finally hits the market. GM and Ford will already be in the saddle, as will Rivian, Bollinger and certainly Tesla. And other brands will be added over the years, with the electric pickup truck niche sure to be very large within a few seasons. Here’s to Ram not missing the boat!
