More Than 250 Miatas Attend Second Annual Mazda MX-5 Gathering in Montreal

Historic vehicles and limited anniversary editions highlight the second annual Mazda gathering in Pointe-Claire.

  • 250+ Miatas attended Annual Mazda MX-5 Miata Gathering in Montreal

  • 862nd Miata ever built showcased among historic vehicles representing original colours

  • Nine limited 2025 anniversary editions displayed together for the first time

For the second consecutive year, Mazda MX-5 Miata enthusiasts converged on the automaker’s regional office in Pointe-Claire for the Annual Mazda MX-5 Miata Gathering. More than 250 Miatas from all four generations participated in Sunday’s celebration, organized by Benoit Lavigne and Germain Goyer in partnership with Mazda Canada.

The 2025 event featured a special tribute to the three original 1990 colours alongside the newly introduced 35th Anniversary Edition, creating a thematic bridge between the model’s heritage and its current evolution. The September 7 Annual Mazda MX-5 Miata Gathering drew participants from across Québec and Ontario to the west-side Montréal location, continuing the success of last year’s inaugural event that attracted over 300 vehicles.

Historic Vehicles and Milestone Moments

Among the notable vehicles on display, the oldest Miata served as a centrepiece of the tribute to the three original 1990 colours. With a VIN ending in 0862, the white 1989 production model represented the 862nd Miata ever built worldwide, manufactured in April 1989. This rare early production vehicle stood prominently among the many red and few blue examples, completing the representation of the roadster’s original colour palette.

Automotive journalist Marc Lachapelle experienced a unique full-circle moment at the event. After attending the Miata’s world debut at the Chicago Auto Show and driving the model at its 1989 launch in Hawaii, Lachapelle was provided with keys to a 1990 Mazda Miata built in April 1989—identical to the vehicle he had driven 35 years earlier during the original press introduction.

The gathering highlighted Mazda‘s 2025 MX-5 special edition, created to commemorate the model’s 35th anniversary. With only 230 units allocated to Canada, the limited-run vehicle stands out as a rare addition to the Canadian market. Nine of these anniversary editions were displayed together at the event, providing attendees with an opportunity to examine the special model’s distinctive features.

The 2025 anniversary edition serves as Mazda’s tribute to the MX-5’s enduring popularity since its Canadian market introduction three and a half decades ago.

Community Support and Event Access

Consistent with the previous year’s approach, organizers maintained free admission to encourage broad participation among Miata enthusiasts. Donations were collected throughout the event to support the Charles-Bruneau Foundation, continuing the gathering’s charitable component.

“We’re thrilled to have pulled off the feat of bringing together so many enthusiasts for a second year in a row, all while raising funds for the Charles-Bruneau Foundation. Once again, we’d like to thank Mazda Canada for welcoming us to their site and for their close collaboration,” said organizer Germain Goyer.

The event’s success demonstrates the sustained enthusiasm for the MX-5 Miata among Canadian automotive enthusiasts, with hundreds of visitors joining the 250+ vehicle owners at the Pointe-Claire facility. The gathering reinforces the strong community that has developed around the lightweight roadster since its Canadian debut, fostering connections among owners from across Québec and Ontario.
