Apple is not saying no to Level 4 technology.
There is still a possibility that the Apple Car gets shelved forever.
The electric revolution in the automotive industry is bringing new players to the arena, including IT empires that have a lot of expertise and a distinct approach than the one advocated by traditional automakers.
This is particularly the case of the American giant Apple which, according to what is reported by Bloomberg, has pushed back to 2028 the arrival of its first electric car designed by the company better recognized by its apple. Previously, the deadline for this project was 2026.
This is a hard blow for Apple, which must postpone the marketing of its first car until later. On top of that, its goal to offer a Level 4 autonomous driving has also been shelved for now. Indeed, Apple is now targeting a vehicle benefiting from level 2 technology, a bit like the most advanced vehicles currently on the market, although certain brands are already working on Level 3 equipped cars.
Yet, Apple is not closing the door regarding the addition of a Level 4 equipped car later in the vehicle’s life cycle.
The American firm arrives at an important moment in its electric and autonomous car project. If the team assigned to the Apple car can’t come up with a viable vehicle with reliable features, it’s a safe bet that the idea of a car adorned with the famous Apple badge could eventually get cancelled.
