The CarPlay wallpaper has evolved.
Discovering Apple CarPlay in your new car (or Android Auto) is nothing short of a revolution. Connecting your phone, your world, to your vehicle opens up countless connectivity possibilities and it quickly becomes a necessity. Apple has just introduced its iOS 14 and it’s got cool features for our cars.
CarPlay itself will now support a series of new app types including for parking, ordering food and for EV users, electric vehicles charging and routing. On the latter point, Maps will be able to track your vehicle’s state of charge and factor in elevation and speed and will automatically add charging stops along the route. As well, Maps won’t send you to any random charging station as it will send you only to compatible stations based on your car’s details.
We all love to customize our displays and Apple iOS 14 will more or less allow this. It will offer a number of wallpapers to change the display’s background from a series of provided images. We assume that full customization is only a few updates away.
Finally, Car Keys in Wallet will enable users to unlock and start one’s car with their phone, or Apple watch. These virtual keys will be sharable with built-in restrictions, if the user decides to exercise them, such as revoking said key. And, should your phone’s battery run out of power, the key will work for up to five more hours on the phone’s reserve juice.
EV charging and routing has not been released in Apple Maps on IOS 14. There is no option in Apple maps to customise EV car model, state or charge or range. It must be coming in future updates.
