This model will use the new PPE platform and it will feature a wider body and larger wheels.
The A6 e-Tron concept reportedly shows close to 90% of the upcoming RS6.
Up to 700 kilometres of range and a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in under 4 seconds are expected.
Audi has confirmed it is working on an electric RS6 e-Tron sports sedan that will be unveiled next year.
This long-awaited electric performance vehicle will share its new PPE platform with upcoming EVs from Porsche and it should receive a 100-kWh battery pack.
This should give the RS6 a range of about 700 kilometres (435 miles) and its motors will power it to 100 km/h in under 4 seconds.
Few other details are known about this model at the moment, but the automaker’s design boss told Top Gear that the RS6 e-Tron will be wider than the current model and it will benefit from larger wheels.
This is one of the main differences between the A6 e-Tron concept shown last year and the upcoming production version.
Indeed, the concept apparently showed close to 90% of the final product, but it features a narrow body that will be enlarged before the official launch planned for next year.
In addition, the Avant version (wagon) is likely to be kept around for the next generation since the executive said the RS line of Audi models is “all about the combination between performance and functionality”, citing the ability to fit bikes and skis into a vehicle that offers a high level of performance.
The arrival of this new model doesn’t mean that gasoline-powered sports cars are over at Audi, however, since many “Farewell” versions are planned to salute the end of the gasoline engine in the coming years.
According to the design boss, these cars will be impressive and the last of the combustion-powered RS models should be “mind-blowing”.
