40 years since quattro was founded
Audi Sport has been celebrating its anniversary all summer long
Today marks 40 years since Audi’s go-fast brand was born. So Audi Sport is throwing itself a party that caps off a series of events that started back in May.
Audi Sport started in 1983 as quattro GmbH, the company formed to protect the name Audi was using on its rally-dominating racers. But quattro started not just to give Audi somewhere to park its go-fast engineers, the company almost immediately started selling clothing and other quattro-branded merch.
40 years on, Audi Sport designs the company’s RS cars. It still sells t-shirts and about a million other bits of merch, too.
The party starts on October 14th at Audi Forum Neckarsulm. The Audi factory there will open to the public, with Audi Sport execs on hand for exclusive tours and a display of Audi Sport cars old and new including the Audi S1 e-tron quattro Hoonitron.
Audi began the 40th anniversary celebrations at the Nurburgring 24h back in May. 235,000 fans at the event saw a display of race cars on track, plus past and present RS models. It also had plenty of RS on display at the Dakar Rally.
