Audi to Update the A5, Q5, A6, A6 e-Tron, and Q6 e-Tron for the 2026 Model Year

• Improvements are made to the driver assistance features, infotainment systems, matrix headlamps, and the interior.

• A new drive mode will make the experience more engaging for the driver.

• These changes aim to make the PPE and PPC platforms competitive for year to come.

Audi will make a wide range of small changes to its models using the PPE and PPC architectures with the start of the 2026 model year next month.

Launched in 2024, both of these platforms (Premium Platform Electric and Premium Platform Combustion) are among the newest in the automaker’s lineup, underpinning models such as the A5, the A6, the Q5, the A6 e-Tron and the Q6 e-Tron.

Despite these models’ modernity, Audi wants to add new features that will keep them relevant for at least a few years, while competitors will launch all-new models.

Thus, all five of these vehicles will be treated to an extensive range of updates on the German market starting in December. Other world markets will benefit from these improvements as well, as long as regulations permit them.

Improved Dynamics

The first in a long line of updates is the addition of the “Dynamic Plus” drive mode in the S5 and S6 e-Tron. This mode will reduce the functionality of the ESP system to allow controlled oversteer, enhance the responsiveness of the accelerator pedal, and bring up a “Dynamic Plus” screen in the driver’s display, which includes a round tachometer and a shift light in the S5.

In addition, the new drive mode will adjust parameters of the Quattro Sport differential in the S5 and the electric Quattro all-wheel drive system for the S6 e-Tron, along with the brake torque vectoring control.

The available “Drive Select Assistant” will automatically switch drive modes according to the driving style and conditions.

Another change made to the powertrain is an improved regenerative braking system that can now slow the vehicle to a stop without having to use the friction brakes, making for smoother stops, less wear on the brake components, and better efficiency, since more energy can be recuperated at every stop.

More Driver Assistance Features

Audi has also decided to add new features to its PPE and PPC models’ driver assistance suite, including a new parking assistant that can park the vehicle on its own via the driver’s smartphone, in addition to learning five parking maneuvers, each 200 metres long, which it can then perform while the driver is monitoring the situation. According to the automaker, this is especially useful for drivers who have to navigate a complicated driveway or tight parking spaces on private property.

The A5, Q5, A6, A6 e-Tron, and Q6 e-Tron will also now be able to adjust their speed according to road signs as well as stored route data, and their lane-keeping system with adaptive cruise control now supports semi-autonomous lane changes activated via the turn signals, provided that the driver keeps their hands on the steering wheel.

More buttons and advanced infotainement

Due to customer feedback, Audi will replace some of the touch-sensitive pads with physical buttons in these sedans and SUVs, most notably on the steering wheel.

A new user interface, first seen in the new Q3, will be expanded to the rest of the lineup with the launch of the 2026 models. This will provide better smartphone integration, with mirroring now possible on all three dashboard screens (driver, infotainment, and passenger) and three themes for the virtual cockpit instrument cluster.

The infotainment system will also include a more comprehensive voice assistant that will be able to answer questions about the vehicle itself. In addition, this technology, based on ChatGPT, can respond to vague commands without requiring a particular speech structure, and it will allow drivers and passengers to control some of the vehicle’s functions by voice, such as the adaptive cruise control. A learning feature will enable the assistant to perform some functions autonomously, like activating the lift function of the available air suspension when nearing areas such as high curbs or rail crossings.

An integrated dashcam system will also be available, providing 4k photos and videos of what is in front of the vehicle at the request of the driver, or during an unusual event. When triggered by a crash, emergency braking, or hazard light activation, this system will save 30 seconds of content before and after the event to an SD card in the vehicle. Images can then be viewed on the car’s central display or on a computer, but no data is transmitted over the air by this system.

“Experience Worlds” and better video games

The final update shared by all five models is the introduction of “Experience Worlds”, a feature that will allow drivers to tailor the car’s interior to their mood by way of the sound system, climate control features, massaging seats, and interior lighting. Each program, aimed at energizing or relaxing the occupants, will last between 10 and 20 minutes. There will be three of these programs available at launch, with more possibly being added later. The electric A6 e-Tron and Q6 e-Tron will also feature a Power Nap mode, which will promote rest while the vehicle is charging.

In addition to this, Audi now makes it possible to connect controllers and headphones via Bluetooth to enhance the gaming experience for passengers without disturbing the driver, especially when the included video games are played on the passenger’s display, which the driver can’t see.

Better seats and headlamps for the A6

Finally, the gasoline-powered 2026 Audi A6 will benefit from new front seats that are said to be more comfortable and more supportive, while both the A6 and A6 e-Tron will receive enhanced Matrix LED headlamps that can project symbols such as navigation directions, slippery road warnings, and lane centring tips directly onto the road surface, in front of the driver. These headlamps can also illuminate pedestrians on the side of the road to make them more visible and dynamically dim around oncoming vehicles to prevent glare and provide more effective illumination. The headlamp and taillamp visual signatures can also be selected via the infotainment system.

Orders for the updated 2026 Audi A5, Q5, A6, A6 e-tron, and Q6 e-Tron will begin in the first weeks of December, with deliveries expected next year.
