Audi Unveils Third-Generation Q3 with PHEV Power and Considerable Upgrades

Plug-in hybrid with 119 km EV range headlines Audi Q3's latest redesign for digital, driver-focused use.

  • Audi Q3 gains plug-in hybrid variant offering 119 km WLTP electric range and 268 hp system output.

  • New digital Matrix LED headlights improve visibility and integrate with driver assistance functions.

  • Interior upgrades include Android OS infotainment, AI voice assistant, and acoustic glazing for comfort.

Audi has introduced the third generation of its Q3 SUV and Q3 Sportback, adding new plug-in hybrid variants, upgraded digital technologies, and advanced driver assistance systems. The updated compact models will go on sale in Europe starting in October. North American details to follow.

New to the lineup is a plug-in hybrid system offering up to 119 km of WLTP electric range, powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine and electric motor delivering a generous combined output of 268 hp (200 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. These models support 50 kW DC fast charging, enabling a charge from 10 to 80 percent in under 30 minutes.

Among the key technological enhancements are the new digital Matrix LED headlights, which improve road illumination. Up to 36-segment OLED rear lights provide animated signatures and adaptive rear lighting, like the Q5’s.

Inside, the Q3 adopts the digital layout seen in Audi’s larger models, including a curved panoramic display, a 12.8-inch MMI touchscreen, and an 11.9-inch instrument cluster. The system runs on Android Automotive OS and supports third-party apps such as YouTube without requiring a smartphone connection. Audi’s AI-based virtual assistant debuts as an animated avatar on the display and head-up unit.

The redesigned steering system now features two new column-mounted stalks for gear selection and lighting controls. Optional features include a 420-watt SONOS sound system and ambient lighting with up to 30 colour options.

The Q3’s practicality remains intact, with 488 litres of cargo capacity expandable to 1,386 litres in the SUV model. The rear bench can slide and recline, and towing capacity is rated at 2,100 kilograms in Europe.

Audi offers a variety of powertrain options beyond the plug-in hybrid. The base 1.5-litre TFSI gasoline engine delivers 148 hp (110 kW) and features mild-hybrid technology. Additional choices include a 2.0-litre TFSI in two output levels (201 hp and 261 hp (150 kW and 195 kW)), as well as a 2.0-litre TDI diesel. All engines are paired with a 7-speed S tronic transmission, with quattro all-wheel drive standard on higher-output gasoline models.

The standard suspension has been redesigned, and customers can opt for a new two-valve adaptive damper system. A reworked progressive steering setup further enhances driving dynamics, with Audi’s Drive Select system offering multiple modes, including a new “Balanced” setting. Safety and driver assistance have also been expanded.

Production is split between Audi’s facilities in Győr, Hungary and Ingolstadt, Germany. Audi expects strong demand for the new model, which has sold over two million units globally since its debut.
