Rumors have swirled for a while about a possible baby Ford Bronco. These spy shots appear to show the baby Bronco testing off-road.
What’s more intriguing is the info that came with the images, specifically that the upcoming small Ford Bronco would be called Ford Adventurer when it debuts in 2021. We asked Ford about it and they said they couldn’t comment which is fine and was to be expected.
In other words, there’s no way right now to determine if there’s any truth to the rumor. So, let’s speculate. Ford current offers the entry-level EcoSport with the Escape following suit. The Escape has been completely redesigned for 2020 while the EcoSport is new to Canada, but the model is based on a vehicle that has been offered for a few years in other markets.
The Ford Bronco is confirmed for 2020. It is expected to be a rugged SUV that will take on the likes of the Jeep Wrangler and Toyota 4Runner, and as such will slot parallel to the Ford Edge in the Ford utility vehicle lineup.
Then there’s the more interesting case of the “baby Bronco”. It’s been rumored for much of the year, but little info has actually been confirmed by Ford. Some say it will be a more rugged version of the Ford Escape while others think it will be called Ford Bronco Scout and will be a smaller version of the upcoming Bronco.
In both cases, it doesn’t appear as if this baby Bronco, – or Ford Adventure, or Ford Bronco Scout – will replace the EcoSport or serve as a new entry-level Ford SUV. It’s more likely that like the Bronco, it will be a side addition to the SUV lineup with a narrower target audience.
In terms of size, the SUV seen in the pictures here appears to be larger than a Jeep Renegade which would be the most direct competitor to a potential Ford Adventurer, but it’s hard to tell if it’s actually the same size as the new Escape.
All we know at this point is that Ford’s 2020 SUV lineup will have a lot going on, so stay tuned.
