13 hp extra for 2.0L four
Black optics pack standard, Sport package now cheaper
Audi is launching an update to the entry-level model Audi A6 with a 2.0L turbo-four that makes a bit more power than the old base model and comes with some upgrades to standard equipment as well. The A6 Sport 45 is coming to the US with 261 hp from the engine, 13 more than before, and adding some extra kit for passengers and driver as well.
Adding just the Sport tag and keeping the same 45 badge is an odd choice for the more powerful car, but Audi’s number names have some gaps. 45, we were told, covers the 226-248 hp range, putting the old base A6 right at the top. But the next-up 50 badge doesn’t start until 281 hp. So basically it’s a slightly quicker entry-level A6, but not as quick as the V6, and that’s all that matters. This is the new base A6.
Also part of the Sport refresh/name change is a standard black exterior trim package including the grille, air intakes, mirror caps, and gloss-black window trim. Fine-grain ash replaces walnut trim inside, and a black headliner is standard. It also has progressive steering that makes the ratio more direct as speed increases.
Lane departure warning stays standard, as do LED headlights, but, Audi notes, the Sport package (making it a Sport Sport) that comes with 20-inch alloys and sport suspension will become more affordable than before.
The A6 Sport 45 comes with three-zone climate control and Audi MMI navigation with two large touchscreens and will start from $55,400.
