19-inch BBS weaves finished in gold the build’s highlight
Retro graphics and lowering finish off the work
Add one more to the Volkswagen Enthusiast fleet for this year. This one is an Mk 8 Volkswagen Golf GTI fitted with some serious attitude and a set of waffle pattern BBS wheels that look almost perfectly stanced.
“I saw the Mk2, the concept was based on, at a show in 2019 and was drawn to the simplicity and strength of the build,” said Sean Maynard, Enthusiast and Motorsport Marketing Specialist for Volkswagen. “I had the chance to meet Brock Bickford, from Evansville, IN, and learned that this was a project that he has been building with his daughter since she was seven years old. It’s stories like this that give me a deeper appreciation for the VW enthusiast community.”
That’s right, VW got the idea for this one from an actual customer’s Mk 2 GTI, which explains the retro graphics pack.
The car was fitted with a set of BBS Super RS wheels with a gold finish in 19×9. They were then wrapped in 235/35R17 tires before the car was lowered with a set of H&R coilovers. The rear is straight from H&R, but builder Jamie Orr modified the fronts to allow for more camber adjustment.
A Borla exhaust was fitted to the 241 hp 2.0L turbo-four for just a bit more sound than the factory offered. Once that was fitted, a retro black and red BBS livery with pinstriping was applied.
The inside? It’s stock. Orr said “take those wingback seats, with this striking red design – they are just phenomenal. Changing any of that would have been a shame.” Maynard added that the interior of the Enthusiast Fleet vehicles are often left standard anyway so that customers new to the brand see the potential outside but get a feel for the Volkswagen interior.
