On Sunday, June 30th, 2019, Rhys Millen drove a W12-powered Bentley Continental GT and managed to climb the Pikes Peak 156 corners in a record-setting time. The almost 5,000 ft climb took the ‘King of the Mountain’ 10:18.488 minutes, or 8.4 seconds off the existing fastest production car record.
To commemorate this record, Bentley announced the launch of a new Continental GT Limited Edition. Limited to only 15 copies, it honours the Crewe-based manufacturer of their feat at the 2019 International Hill Climb in Colorado.
The first thing you notice on this special edition Bentley Continental GT is the colour. Painted in the same Radium colour with gloss black details as the record-breaking Conti GT, it also features a carbon fibre body kit. The ‘100’ grille that can be seen in the picture is optional and is a wink at the brand’s centenary year.
“The new Limited Edition Continental GT is distinguished by a number of carefully curated features to honour that outstanding record run,” said Chris Craft, Member of the Board for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales at Bentley Motors. “It reflects Bentley’s spirit of endeavour, one that has been a constant throughout the last 100 years and remains at the beating heart of the company.”
The Radium colour scheme continues inside the cabin, as per the Pikes Peak GT race car, with contrasting thread stitching throughout the interior. On the passenger side, the carbon-fibre fascia features a Pikes Peak graphic along with the record-setting time of 10:18.488.
To finish off, Bentley added a Pikes Peak decal on the fenders. The Pikes Peak is also embroidered on the seat headrests and engraved on the special Pikes Peak treadplates.
The 625-hp twin-turbocharged Bentley W12 engine powers the Limited Edition Continental GT and helps it do the 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. It will be available to order starting this month.
