Sometimes a manufacturer takes a different route to talk about an important announcement. This time, the Bavarian division is taking advantage of its YouTube audience to present this adrenaline-filled video featuring the Dune Taxi.
The curious vehicle, clearly designed for off-road use, appears to be part of the Extreme E racing series, where several crews compete to win the event in cars that look suspiciously like the prototype named Dune Taxi in the promotional video.
Yes, this is a promotion for the brand, especially for the crossovers equipped with xDrive, the BMW X6 M – definitely the vehicle with a combustion engine – and the BMW iX M60, and even the XM concept, which is scheduled to debut before the end of September.
In fact, the video even features drivers of the first-generation BMW X5 on two wheels, the Dune Taxi, which has no trouble getting around these old SUVs driven by talented drivers.
The video doesn’t say much about this dune Taxi, but you can still see the Cosworth logo in the cabin, the firm that is involved in the development of the Odyssey 21, the prototype vehicle that serves as the basis for the series’ cars. In fact, the other data provided in the video all point to those of the base vehicle for the Extreme E series, such as the 536 horsepower or the torque of the latter, limited to 738 lb-ft. In short, unless things change, everything indicates that BMW will be joining the Extreme E adventure soon.
Unfortunately, for those who thought the Dune Taxi would soon become a reality, you’ll have to look elsewhere, as it’s clear that this electric toy will be confined to the world’s off-road circuits. And even if BMW decides otherwise, this video is very good and deserves a few minutes of your time. Go ahead and enjoy!
