BMW, like most automakers, has lofty goals for the near future. They plan on selling 4.6 million electric vehicles within the next decade, as part of its intentions to deliver more than 7 million electrified vehicles, including plug-in hybrids, in the same timeframe.
So far, the BMW Group has sold more than 500,000 electrified cars and SUVs and they expect the number to double before the end of next year. They will achieve this by increasing output at its various operations, including China, as well as introducing numerous new models.
BMW has already committed to PHEV iterations for all model lines and they will account for 2.4 million sales by 2030. The remainder, expected to be fully electric, will follow in the footsteps already established by the recently revealed iX3 and teased i4 5-door coupé.
BMW’s EV pipeline includes the production version of the iNEXT which, according to autocar.co.uk, will likely be called the iX5. An X1, to be named iX1, as well as an i5 and i7, which will be based on the next-generation 5- and 7 Series cars are expected. The i3 will be replaced by an i3, but this time will be an electric 3 Series car. Also in the works is an iX7 large SUV.
The “Power of Choice” will enable consumers to select the model family they desire and the powertrain of their liking, between petrol, diesel, PHEV, and EV.
