Individual paint now offered on smallest BMWs
You can now pick from 160 colours for your 2er GC or blend your own
If you want a special colour from BMW, you no longer have to limit yourself to the company’s priciest and biggest models. The automaker has just completed the first 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe in BMW Individual colours, starting with Speed Yellow, San Marino Blue, Verde Ermes Green, and Nardo Grey.
BMW says that boring black and white are still the most popular choices, but that customers are starting to get sick of that and are seeing “more expressive” paint for their cars. In response, BMW is now offering 160 different Individual colours for the BMW 1 Series and 2 Series GC, and the order books for these has already filled up through end of year.
It’s normally a 10-week lead time for an Individual colour, and buyers can pick a custom colour if they’re not happy with the wide range. To fit the smaller BMW models, BMW had to upgrade its existing paint shops with a new paint supply system and mixing area. It’s now able to paint five Individual models per day.
Individual colours take more work, BMW says, even more for matte-look cars. Those ones take 30 minutes longer to prepare than standard paint. The new range is proving popular on all engine choices, not just the top ones, with BMW reporting 180 orders of specially coloured 118d models to be sent to Japan.
