The BMW X2 is ready for a makeover
New X2 gets new nose, longer roofline
BMW is getting ready to launch a new X2. The fashion-forward crossover was teased on the company’s social media channels revealing a new (and much more curvy) silhouette and a new front lighting profile.
The caption on BMW’s teaser says “something eXciting to look forward 2.” The big X and the number two make it pretty clear that this is the new BMW X2. Or it could be an iX2, the likely electric version of the compact crossover.
While we don’t get to see much, we can see a silhouette that is a big change from the old, cropped, and boxy-looking X2’s rear. This one has a much more gradually tapering roofline, one that looks almost shockingly long for such a small vehicle. It looks like an X4 or X6, but exaggerated.
The engines and everything else are likely going to be shared with the X1 which was updated last year. That means 2.0L four-cylinder gas engines, while an EV is likely to have 308 hp and a 65 kWh battery like the iX1.
BMW didn’t say when we can expect to see the new model, but the teaser cycle usually only lasts a few weeks. Normally we’d suggest it would come at the LA Auto Show in November, but since BMW has dropped out of that show, we’ll have to wait and see.
