BMW Tells Dealers 40 New Models in Next Five Years

BMW fills in its dealer group

  • 40 product updates coming

  • New X3 and X5 next on list

BMW told its dealers at a meeting in Las Vegas last week that it plans to introduce 40 new and updated models over the next five years.

Automotive News reported on the results of the annual event, where dealers from across the Americas got to learn about the state of BMW and its future plans. BMW CEO Oliver Zipse, CTO Frank Webber, and the company’s head of sales spoke at the event.

The report says that dealers got their first looks at 10 of the new products, meaning those are the ones likely to launch in the next year or two. The presentation included new versions of the BMW X3 and X5, a refreshed 2 Series Gran Coupe, and a refreshed version of the i7 electric sedan.

One dealer described the new X5 as “mean” and said, “The headlights were probably the coolest thing I’ve seen.” Another said, “We feel good about the product.”

Attendees also described dealer service department changes. Service advisors will have access to more customer data, including prior complaints. The company said that would help smooth service, though we’re skeptical.

While BMW continues to launch new EVs, the company isn’t dropping combustion just yet. The report said that BMW indicated it will keep investing in gas engines, and that includes V8s. The latest of those V8s will be found under the hood of the just-announced BMW M5 Touring, coming to North America for the first time.
