The BMW M2 CS was unveiled by the German manufacturer and features the M4 Competition engine and a standard 6-speed manual transmission.
BMW blurs the line between a daily driver and a track-only vehicle with its all-new and hardcore M2 CS Coupe. This beast will be an exclusive and limited-run special-edition model with one model year only.
The M2 CS gets the same engine found in the M4 Competition, the S55 3.0-litre inline 6-cylinder with TwinPower Turbo technology but uprated. Indeed, this new version pumps out 444 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque according to the carmaker, which tells us these are preliminary figures.
The S55 engine in combination with the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission makes the car go from 0-100 km/h in 4.0 seconds flat. The 6-speed manual gearbox adds 0.2 seconds.
BMW M GmbH and BMW Motorsport worked together on this project as the BMW M2 CS and M2 CS Racing models were developed side by side. The two entities will cooperate in the future but only on select limited edition M models.
Speaking of race cars, the new Coupe from BMW will get some carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) parts. We’re talking about a CFRP roof, hood, front spoiler, rear spoiler, rear diffuser and mirror caps. The CRFP not only helps to reduce weight but also improve cooling and aerodynamics.
Meanwhile, exposed carbon fibre can be found on the new front splitter, the rear diffuser and the trunk spoiler.
Another thing that needs a mention is those gorgeous gold matt finish wheels. They are optional but look at them, just look. At. Them. Oh my! That being said, these lightweight 19-inch forged wheels (19 x 9.0 front, 19 x 10.0 rear) are wrapped with 245/35R19 and 265/35R19 tires and available in a high-gloss Jet Black finish.
Still faithful to the race car, inside there is plenty of Alcantara, whether on the center armrest, the dash trim, the M Competition seats or the M Sport steering wheel. The latter also has red contrast stitching and a race stripe at the 12 o’clock position.
The M2 CS pictured here features the exclusive Misano Blue metallic paint finish. Three other colours are also available: Alpine White, Black Sapphire Metallic and Hockenheim Silver Metallic.
The 2020 BMW M2 CS Coupe will make its world debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this month. Canadian pricing and official specifications will be announced closer to its market launch in April 2020.
