BMW Bids Farewell to the Z4 With Exclusive Final Edition

Limited-production 382-hp M40i variant closes 23 years of Z4 roadster manufacturing with exclusive Frozen Black paint and optional six-speed manual.

  • BMW Z4 Final Edition priced at $99,900 CAD—$14,000 above standard M40i

  • 382-hp straight-six offered with six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic

  • Manual transmission models receive dedicated chassis tuning and suspension calibration

BMW has announced the Z4 Final Edition, a limited-production M40i variant that will close out manufacturing of the automaker’s two-seat roadster. Priced at $99,900 CAD regardless of transmission choice, the Final Edition will be built between February and April 2026 in a single, fully-equipped specification. The price represents a $14,000 premium over the standard 2026 Z4 M40i Roadster, which starts at $85,900 CAD.

The announcement ends a 23-year production run for the Z4 nameplate, which launched in 2002 as a successor to the Z3. The current third-generation model premiered at Pebble Beach in August 2018.

382-hp Straight-Six with Manual or Automatic Transmission

The Final Edition retains the Z4 M40i’s 3.0-litre straight-six engine with TwinPower Turbo technology, producing 382 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. Buyers will select between a six-speed manual or an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission.

Customers who opt for the manual gearbox receive dedicated chassis tuning developed specifically for that transmission. Modifications include unique auxiliary springs at both axles, a reinforced front anti-roll bar clamp, and reconfigured software for the electronic rear dampers, variable sport steering, traction control, and M Sport differential.

The Final Edition wears exclusive BMW Individual Frozen Black metallic paint, available only on this variant. High-gloss black trim covers the mirror caps, kidney grille, lower air intake, air breathers, and exhaust finishers. The black soft top and red brake calipers on the standard M Sport brakes complete the exterior treatment.

A staggered wheel and tire package is fitted as standard:

Red Contrast Stitching Throughout Leather and Alcantara Interior

Inside, Vernasca leather and Alcantara cover the M Sport seats. Red contrast stitching runs across the instrument panel, centre console, door panels, and seating surfaces. Floor mats feature red piping, while M tricolour seatbelts and commemorative “Z4 FINAL EDITION” door sill plates distinguish the cabin.

The Premium Enhanced Package comes standard and includes the Harman Kardon surround sound system.

Two Decades of Z4 Production

The Z4 succeeded the Z3 in 2002, with the first-generation model (E85) produced at BMW’s Spartanburg, South Carolina plant. A second generation (E89) arrived in December 2008 and introduced an electro-hydraulic retractable hardtop. The current third-generation roadster returned to a fabric soft top and has offered a manual transmission option in the M40i since 2024.

BMW has not disclosed the exact number of Final Edition units that will be produced, stating only that the variant will be built in “limited numbers.”
