I must be nearing that “age” when a man begins to think longingly about his youth and all the sporty cars he once owned. I’ve not personally held the title to a 2-door coupe in nearly 20 years but suddenly, I have the urge to get one.
BMW’s new 8-series coupe is, in so many ways, the perfect symbol of automotive-dom. It’s low, wide, long and sits with purposeful determination, awaiting the driver’s commands.
The new 850i, which will be also offered as a convertible and a Gran Coupé, will feature a 530-horsepower and 554 lb.-ft. of torque 4.4-litre V8. It is important to note that although related to the existing 4.4-litre, the 8’s has been thoroughly revised. BMW’s xDrive AWD with a rear-wheel bias is included, as will be an 8-speed automatic produced by ZF and four-wheel steering, called Integral Active Steering.
We expect that an 840i and perhaps even an ultimate 860i will also be made available at some point.
