We all love the Mercedes-AMG G63. We love the Brabus version called 800 Widestar even more.
You don’t need to do anything to the new Mercedes-AMG G63 to get it to stand out, but should you insist, the Brabus 800 Widestar is certainly the way to go. Unveiled for the Geneva Motor Show, the 800 Widestar is a bigger, more aggressive, and more powerful version of the G63, an iconic SUV that was already big, aggressive, and powerful.
Remember Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II, the Secret of the Ooze? Remember when Shredder drinks the ooze at the end and turns into a “super Shredder”?. The Brabus 800 Widestar is like a Mercedes-AMG G63 that drank the ooze.
As is typical with Brabus models and as its name would imply, the 800 Widestar is, well, wider. The fenders are pushed out by about 4 inches which makes it possible to house 23-inch wheels if you really want to go crazy, but you can also opt for smaller 21-inch models. Why anyone would do that when they bring their G63 to Brabus in the first place we don’t know, but the point here is that there are options with the 800 Widestar.
The hood’s massive carbon fiber bulging air intake really set the Brabus 800 Widestar apart from “regular” G63 models visually, but it’s what we find under that hood that really makes this model unique.
Brabus went and added 212 horsepower to the G63’s already potent engine for a total output of 789 ponies with 737 pound-feet of torque to go with it. A vehicle of this size and shape will always be limited by physics and Brabus didn’t have a choice but to top the maximum speed at 249 km/h. You will get there faster than any other G-Class, however, as the claimed 0 to 100 km/h sprint is 4.1 seconds. Good golly.
The Brabus 800 Widestar will be unveiled tomorrow in Geneva.
