Marking the centenary of the world-renowned motorsport event, 24 Hours of Le Mans, Bugatti unveiled its high-performance track-only hypercar, the Bolide, in a public debut. The wheel was held by the brand’s highly decorated driver, Andy Wallace, instigating awe among spectators, whilst continuing Bugatti’s rich motorsport legacy, deeply linked to Le Mans 24 Hours.
Throughout the past ten decades, Bugatti has crafted unforgettable milestone moments at this motorsport event, a tradition that continued over the weekend. Under the watchful eyes of the attendees, the Bugatti Bolide took a lap around the historic Le Mans 24 Hours circuit on Saturday, marking not only its first public presentation but also providing a platform for 1988 Le Mans winner, Andy Wallace, to demonstrate the hypercar’s capabilities.
President of Bugatti Automobiles, Christophe Piochon, emphasized the significance of the event in Bugatti’s history and expressed his pride in creating another landmark moment at Le Mans. Central to the Bolide’s performance is Bugatti’s 8.0-litre W16 engine encased within a carbon body optimized for aerodynamics. To match the car’s extraordinary speed, a customized braking system inspired by F1 technology was engineered by Brembo.
The weekend event was further elevated by the presence of two historic Bugatti cars. A blue Bugatti EB110S “Le Mans” took part in the Grande Exposition Du Centenaire Parade, reminding fans of its participation in the 1994 race. Also on display was the legendary Bugatti Type 50S at the 24 Hours of Le Mans Museum, recalling its contested racing past in the early 1930s.
These displays and the public debut of the Bolide amplified the centenary celebrations of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, reflecting Bugatti’s timeless appeal and profound contribution to motorsport. This weekend served as another memorable chapter in the history of Bugatti and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and it’s clear that the brand’s innovative spirit continues to captivate motorsport fans worldwide.
