Buick 2023 Lineup: Models And Changes Overview

Goodbye Encore, hello Envista.

  • The Buick Encore GX received a mid-cycle refresh.

  • Buick Encore dead, Buick Envista on the way.

  • Buick Electra E5 will be the brand’s first EV in North America.

General Motors’ Buick brand is gearing up to introduce its first fully electric vehicles in North America under the Electra moniker, as it aims to exclusively sell EVs in our market by 2030. In the meantime, Buick continues to offer a lineup of crossovers big and small.

The first fully electric model we’ll be getting is likely the Buick Electra E5, which just debuted in China, but should arrive in North America sometime in 2024. Here’s what to expect from the Buick brand in 2023, with models listed in alphabetical order.

Buick Enclave

After receiving a mid-cycle refresh in 2022, the Buick Enclave rolls into 2023 with only a few changes, limited to paint colour swaps and a new set of 20-inch wheels. The Enclave gets a 3.6L V6 engine with 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque as the only engine choice, matched to a nine-speed automatic transmission and available AWD.

Buick Encore

Production of the Buick Encore subcompact has ended after a nine-year run. The 2022 model was equipped with a turbocharged 1.4L inline-four that developed 155 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, managed by a six-speed automatic and the choice between front-wheel and all-wheel drive.

Buick Encore GX

Now the brand’s entry-level model in North America, the Buick Encore GX enters its fourth model year with one change, as Satin Steel Metallic paint is replaced with Moonstone Gray Metallic. The subcompac crossover is available in front-wheel-drive configuration with a turbocharged 1.2L inline-thee engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission, good for 137 horsepower 162 pound-feet of torque. The turbo 1.3L inline-three with 155 horsepower and 174 pound-feet can be matched with FWD and a continuously variable automatic transmission or AWD and a nine-speed automatic in the U.S. A mid-cycle refresh is expected for the 2024 model year.

Buick Envision

The second-generation Buick Envision arrived for the 2021 model year, and little changes have been announced for 2023. The compact crossover is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0L inline-four that develops 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, managed by a nine-speed automatic transmission. A front-wheel drivetrain is standard, while AWD is optional. Paint colour swaps and more safety features becoming standard on the range-topping Avenir highlight this year’s changes.

Buick Envista

It’s unclear if the Buick Envista will arrive in North America as a 2023 or a 2024 model, but it will arrive this year. Already on sale in China, the Buick Envista is a small crossover coupe that will boast the brand’s new design language, which we have seen on the recently introduced Buick Wildcat Concept. No details have been announced so far, but we’re expecting the Envista to be equipped with one of GM’s turbocharged three-cylinder engines that equip the Encore GX.
