Blackwing editions for the CT4 and CT5 will be offered in limited numbers.
Blackwing is the name given to Caddy’s twin-turbo V8 engine.
These cars will be available with a manual transmission.
These super-high-performance Cadillacs may go down as the greatest ever.
Talk of Cadillac’s twin-turbocharged 4.2-litre Blackwing V8 has been ongoing for months now. Stories of its complete demise were pre-mature as an Italian company was interested in a few mills. Then, in a successful bid to get the media talking about the engine again, Cadillac hinted that they were hoping to keep the engine “alive.” And now, Caddy’s just revealed that they will build a limited run of CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing cars.
The interesting and sneaky thing Cadillac’s done is not specify that the actual 550-horsepower twin-turbocharged 4.2-litre V8 will power the cars. Caddy does specify that these V-Series Blackwing models will get uniquely tuned chassis, vehicle control technologies and “engines.” While it seems that neither of these Blackwing cars will get the 4.2-litre (source says the CT4-V should get the ATS-V’s twin-turbo V6 while the CT5-V should get the CTS-V’s supercharged V8), this video certainly sounds convincing. Also, each V-Series Blackwing model will be offered with a manual transmission.
Brandon Vivian, Cadillac executive chief engineer, said: “The Blackwing name has come to represent the very best of Cadillac performance engineering, craftsmanship and technology. The new CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing build on the brand’s respected legacy of ultimate-performance driving experiences and elevate them even further.”
We look forward to finding out more.
