Camaro’s Motorsport Heritage Expands: Unveiling the 2024 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Garage 56 Edition

Charting a New Course in Motorsport History: The 2024 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Garage 56 Edition

  • The 2024 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Garage 56 Edition, a tribute to the Le Mans NASCAR Cup Camaro ZL1, is announced.

  • The Garage 56 project represents a unique collaboration between NASCAR, Hendrick Motorsports, Chevrolet, Goodyear, and IMSA.

  • The limited-production model, carrying design elements from the race car and powered by Camaro ZL1’s 650hp LT4 V8, will see only 56 units produced.

The motorsport legacy of the Camaro is set to gain another chapter, as Chevrolet has announced a unique tribute to a special race car, the Garage 56 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. Aptly named the 2024 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Garage 56 Edition, this highly limited-production model is a celebration of the monumental efforts to run a NASCAR Cup Camaro ZL1 in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Camaro’s Motorsports Heritage Continues: The 2024 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Garage 56 Edition

Key design highlights of the 2024 edition include a Riptide Blue exterior colour, a graphics package reminiscent of the race car, a NASCAR 75th Anniversary logo, a special Garage 56 badge, and Hendrick Motorsports logo. The interior also features unique Garage 56 emblems, and under the hood, the Camaro ZL1’s 650hp LT4 V8 engine provides ample power.

In line with the spirit of Garage 56, only 56 units of the Camaro ZL1 Garage 56 Edition will be produced for the U.S. market, marking another significant accomplishment in Camaro’s storied motorsports heritage.

Revving Up the Heritage: The Garage 56 Initiative

The Garage 56 initiative represents a remarkable collaboration between NASCAR, Hendrick Motorsports, Chevrolet, Goodyear, and IMSA – entities which, combined, have carved an indelible mark in NASCAR’s 75-year history. The project stands as a pioneering effort in Chevrolet’s racing history, as expressed by General Motors President Mark Reuss.

The project began with a vision to showcase the prowess of the NASCAR Next Gen car before a global audience. The Garage 56 class, introduced at Le Mans in 2012 for innovative and extraordinary vehicles, offered the perfect platform for a NASCAR Cup Series car built for maximum-effort driving.

The task to bring this vision to life fell to Hendrick Motorsports, the all-time leader in NASCAR Cup Series championships and race wins. Piloting the Garage 56 Camaro ZL1 at Le Mans will be a star-studded trio of drivers: seven-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Jimmie Johnson, 2009 Formula One World Champion Jenson Button, and multi-time Le Mans winner Mike Rockenfeller.

Following the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, the Camaro ZL1 Garage 56 Edition will enter production later this year at GM’s Lansing Grand River Assembly facility in Michigan. This latest endeavour reaffirms the strength of Camaro’s motorsports lineage and its ongoing commitment to delivering unparalleled performance.
