General Motors (GM) is recalling approximately 30,000 Chevrolet Equinox EVs and Cadillac Optiq SUVs due to a tire issue. According to the U.S. NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), the equivalent of Transport Canada, GM has identified a problem with the Continental CrossContact RX 275/40R21 tires on certain 2025 and 2026 model year vehicles.
Only vehicles equipped with 21-inch wheels are affected
The recall affects 8,345 models in Canada
The defective tires were built during the week of October 6, 2024
In Canada, 8,345 units are affected.
According to GM, the problem stems from the use of a “nonconforming tread base rubber compound.” The good news is that this only concerns tires produced during the week of October 6, 2024.
Nevertheless, vehicle owners should take this seriously. With these tires, a partial or complete separation of the tread can occur, which may lead to loss of control and an accident.

Owners of affected vehicles might notice tread wear in specific areas, excessive vibration, noise, or a bulge in the tread area.
According to the company, no accidents or injuries have resulted due to this issue.
Starting December 1st, General Motors will notify owners by mail and request that they bring their vehicle to a dealer for inspection of the tire(s), with replacement as necessary.
