Around 65% of these reservations are from customers who never bought a Chevrolet before
The RST First Edition model sold out in only 12 minutes
The basic Work Truck (WT) version will be the first on the market
Chevrolet recently announced it now has 150,000 reservations for the 2024 Silverado EV electric pickup, over 85,000 of which are commercial orders for the Work Truck variant.
Electric pickups are all the rage right now and Chevrolet’s entry is proving to be popular as well, with the RST First Edition model having sold out only 12 minutes after the order books opened.
The Silverado EV is available in three trim levels, with the RST First Edition being limited in number. The other models are the RST and the WT (for Work Truck), which is the version destined for use by businesses and vehicle fleets.
Unlike many of its competitors, General Motors chose to make the more affordable commercial version the first to arrive on the market in the spring of 2023, with the other models coming later in the fall for the RST First Edition and in the beginning of 2024 for the RST.
In addition to the large number of orders, Chevrolet has another reason to celebrate. Indeed, the Silverado EV is bringing many new buyers to the brand, with around 65% of the reservations being made by people who have never owned a vehicle from the brand before.
A similar result had been observed by Ford when it launched the F-150 Lightning, of which the Silverado EV will be a direct competitor.
Chevrolet is not the only GM division to boast about the popularity of its new EVs since GMC apparently has 80,000 reservations for the Hummer EV, which has a base price of almost $80,000 in the US.
In that case, over 75% of reservation holders are new to the GMC brand and 42% have never owned a vehicle made by any of General Motors’ other divisions either.
Things are expected to get even better for GMC in the coming years since it will introduce the Sierra EV, which will be its own version of the Silverado EV. This model will provide it with an electric truck that is more affordable and less polarizing than the Hummer EV, which should make it even more popular.
