Chevrolet Unveils the Seeker in China, Could Bring it to North America

Chevrolet unveiled a new model in China that could be brought to North America in the coming years.

  • General Motors has a partnership with SAIC, who will build the Seeker in China

  • This model fits between the Trailblazer and the Equinox in terms of size

  • This model could be brought to North America in the coming years

Chevrolet recently launched a new subcompact SUV in China called the Seeker and there is a possibility this model could be sold here in the future.

The Chevrolet Seeker is a small SUV that fills the gap between the subcompact Trailblazer and the compact Equinox in the brand’s lineup.

In terms of design, this new SUV shares many elements with the Trailblazer and the Blazer, which gives it a more modern and sportier look than the Equinox and other older products of General Motors.

The front end features a split headlight design similar to the one seen on the Blazer and Trailblazer, while the rear is more distinctive in its appearance when compared to other GM SUVs.

Inside, the Seeker is equipped with two screens that serve as the infotainment system and the instrument cluster, but despite them being connected to one another those two screens are not integrated into a single panel, as was seen in most of the new GM products.

The RS version shown in the first images released by the automaker appears to be very well equipped, with power-operated leather upholstered seats that are also heated and ventilated, as well as an infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and over-the-air updates

Under the hood, the Seeker will feature a 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a CVT transmission. According to leaked documents, this engine should deliver around 177 horsepower, but Chevrolet has not confirmed this, nor has it said anything about it being front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

Since this model was intended with China as its primary market, it makes sense that the Seeker will be manufactured there by SAIC, with whom General Motors already has a partnership.

If General Motors decides to bring this model to North America, it will only be the second GM vehicle built in China to be available here, after the Buick Envision.

This could happen since prototypes have been spotted driving around the automaker’s headquarters in Detroit, which suggests the company is considering offering the Seeker in the US and Canada.

In addition to China and North America, other rumoured markets for this new vehicle include South Korea, where GM currently manufactures many of the smaller models it sells around the world, including the Trailblazer and the related Buick Encore GX.
