10,000 square feet of automotive icons
Started as a project to make the garage look nicer
How do you promote your new upscale car storage business? How about with the biggest indoor automotive mural in the world? That’s what Iron Gate Motor Condos has done in their underground warehouse.
Located in Naperville, Il, just west of Chicago, Iron Gate Motor Condos goes beyond normal car storage, offering warehouse space, but also customized spaces with gourmet kitchens, basketball courts, lounges, and seating areas to store your high end and collector cars. Well, we assume you can store whatever, but this place doesn’t look cheap.
“You know, you get started on something, I mean the original concept was just to take some very large iconic pieces of cars. I thought that would probably be enough, but then we got started and it’s like well…let’s add this, let’s add this, and before you know it, here’s what we have,” Tom Burgess, Owner/Developer of Iron Gate Motor Condos told Naperville Community Television.
The mural, titled Auto-mobility On the Shoulders of Giants was painted by Chicago muralist Joe Ortega, taking up 10,000 square feet (929 m2) of wall space. It took more than a year to complete, and the artist estimates more than one million brush strokes went into the completion of the artwork.
Included in the piece are tributes to pop-culture cars like Bond next to his Aston Martin, iconic car parts, and a Rolls Royce Spirit of Ecstacy, as well as tributes to some of the icons of the automotive industry.
Can you come visit? It doesn’t seem like it. Unless you’re in the Chicagoland area and have a car you really need stored.
