The luxury automobile landscape is evolving rapidly, with a growing focus on electrification. Cadillac and Acura are two brands making their mark in this transition, each with a unique approach to electric vehicles (EVs). The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq and the 2024 Acura ZDX EV are poised to redefine the luxury electric SUV segment with their respective features, designs, and technology.


The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq starts at $62,900 in the United States and $69,898 in Canada for the base Luxury trim, including freight and delivery charges. On the other hand, Acura is positioning the 2024 ZDX A-SPEC at more than $80,000 Canadian dollars, with the higher-performance Type S variant commanding a higher price of $90,000 Canadian dollars.

2023 Cadillac Lyriq

Powertrain Information:

The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq is equipped with a single electric motor for the rear-wheel-drive variant, offering 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. It uses a 100 kWh battery pack and provides a driving range of 312 miles (EPA-certified) or 502 kilometers (NRCan-certified). An AWD variant with dual electric motors producing a combined output of 500 horsepower will also be available, though its torque rating and driving range are yet to be specified.

The 2024 Acura ZDX EV features a powertrain similar to the Chevrolet Blazer EV, employing GM’s Ultium platform. While Acura has not disclosed the power output of the ZDX A-SPEC, the Type S variant will offer an impressive 500 horsepower from its pair of electric motors. The ZDX comes equipped with a 102 kWh lithium-ion battery capable of being recharged at a rate of 190 kW. Acura claims that the ZDX A-SPEC can add 120 km of range in about 10 minutes and achieve a driving range of 500 km.


Design and Features:

The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq introduces a new design direction for Cadillac, characterized by a sleek front-end with a black panel incorporating LED strips and an illuminated logo. The Lyriq offers a modern and elegant cabin design, with a curved 33-inch LED display that spans the dashboard. It features advanced technology, including configurable ambient lighting and over-the-air updates to introduce additional features post-purchase. The Lyriq also prioritizes smooth and composed driving dynamics, coupled with impressive insulation and noise-cancelling technology.

The 2024 Acura ZDX EV draws inspiration from the Precision EV concept and exhibits American design elements. The crossover features a closed grille, distinctive headlights, and a profile that closely resembles the concept version. Inside, the ZDX shares some design cues with General Motors products but incorporates unique elements such as an exclusive audio system developed in collaboration with Bang & Olufsen. The infotainment system is powered by GM technology with embedded Google technology.

The ZDX A-SPEC comes equipped with features like 22-inch rims, Brembo brakes, height-adjustable suspension, and balanced weight distribution. The ZDX boasts a sizable 102 kWh battery and rapid charging capabilities, enabling substantial range replenishment in a short time.
