Several manufacturers will be making the most of their presence at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this week, and Polestar is among them. Indeed, the small Swedish – and electric – manufacturer has revealed some juicy details about its grand touring sedan the Polestar 5, the future performance car that is expected to hit the market in 2024.
The brand’s British team has been working with new mechanicals to develop a new chassis made of bonded aluminum, a technique that should ensure a minimum of rigidity to withstand the stress of the powertrain.
The Polestar 5 will be equipped with 800-volt technology for charging, but also a pair of electric motors that can reach a whopping 884 horsepower and 663 lb-ft of torque. The new powertrain is still in the development phase, which could translate into different numbers when the car is finalized for the market.
Jörg Brandscheid, Polestar’s technical director and head of research and development, said, “The new powertrain we are working on will set a new brand benchmark for our high-performance cars. The combination of strong electric motor engineering capability with advances in lightweight platform technology leads to truly amazing driver’s cars.”
At the time of writing, Polestar has not released any additional details, but it’s clear that this sharpened sedan is aimed at nothing less than the best luxury electric sedans already on the market, such as the Tesla Model S or Porsche Taycan to name two.
