Spengler, a former DTM champion, has never raced at GP3R or in a front-wheel-drive car. The 2012 DTM titleholder remains the only North American to win in the series, widely recognized as one of the premier touring car championships in the world. Over the course of his DTM career, Spengler recorded 16 wins, 51 podiums, 18 pole positions, and remains the winningest driver on the Norisring street circuit.

Born in France and raised in Quebec, Spengler began karting competitively before winning the French championship in 2000 and placing 7th globally. He returned to North America to compete in the Formula Renault Fran-Am series, securing the championship in his debut season before resuming his European career in Formula 3 and later DTM.

More recently, Spengler has focused on endurance racing, participating in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and securing podium finishes in major IMSA events, including the 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring. He also won the 6 Hours of Road Atlanta and claimed the Italian GT3 Championship in 2023. He currently serves as a factory driver and brand ambassador for Bugatti.

The Nissan Sentra Cup, launched in 2015, has consistently featured a combination of professional drivers, rookies, and celebrity participants. The series, formerly known as the Micra Cup, has welcomed athletes and public figures such as figure skater Elvis Stojko, former NHL player Marc-André Bergeron, and comedian Michel Barrette. It has also seen participation from international racers like Freddie Hunt, son of former Formula 1 champion James Hunt.

Spengler expressed enthusiasm for his return to racing in Quebec, stating, “I’m super happy to be racing in Quebec again after all these years. It’s a huge pleasure, especially to take part in the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières, which has such a rich history.”

Series promoter Jacques Deshaies said Spengler’s entry aligns with the Cup’s tradition of featuring well-known personalities, noting, “His career is nothing short of remarkable, and I’m thrilled that he accepted the invitation to race in Trois-Rivières.”

The 2025 Nissan Sentra Cup calendar includes five events across Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia. GP3R will host three Cup races during its race weekend.
