E-Legend nears the production phase for its electric EL1 car, a contemporary tribute to the iconic Audi Sport Quattro S1, aiming to debut in 2024.
EL1 boasts 805 horsepower and 848 lb-ft of torque, with a 0-62 mph time of 2.8 seconds.
The original Audi Sport Quattro S1 is known for its WRC titles in 1982 and 1984.
E-Legend’s EL1 production run is set at 30 units, priced at $949,000 U.S., with a reveal planned for the 2024 Monterey Car Week.
E-Legend, a German automotive company, is making significant strides with its EL1 electric car, designed as a modern homage to the celebrated Audi Sport Quattro S1. Two years after unveiling their ambitious project, the firm has successfully incorporated design elements reminiscent of the iconic Group B rally car into their battery-powered coupe. These features are updated with modern touches, including a distinctive NACA-duct-shaped glass panel in the roof.
Recent tests using the car’s carbon fiber monocoque on an airfield displayed its potential, with performance metrics reportedly meeting or surpassing initial targets. The EL1 promises a compelling 805 horsepower and 848 pound-feet of torque, thanks to its three e-motors. The car is expected to accelerate from 0-62 mph in a mere 2.8 seconds and achieve a top speed of 186 mph.
The Audi Sport Quattro S1, which E-Legend’s EL1 seeks to emulate, was renowned for winning two WRC titles in the early 1980s. The S1 variant is particularly notable, even though it clinched just one rally victory. E-Legend’s choice to recreate this specific model may be influenced by the founder’s familial ties to Audi during that era.

While the prototype currently produces 604 horsepower, adjustments are underway to reach the projected performance. The finalized version is set to distribute power from both the front and rear motors more efficiently. Modifications in the battery capacity and curb weight have been made since the initial specs were announced, with the car now expected to weigh 3,950 pounds.
Slated for a grand reveal at the 2024 Monterey Car Week, E-Legend plans a limited production run of 30 EL1 units, each priced at $949,000 U.S. These cars will offer luxury interiors and modern amenities, including power windows and a rear-view camera. As E-Legend progresses with the EL1, they have hinted at a future project named EL2, continuing their journey of resurrecting rally legends.
