E-Type UK Turns Series 3 Jaguar Into Modern Grand Tourer

Classic Jags get restomod treatment

  • “Reimagined” latest trend in restoring and improving classic cars

  • Adds more power, loads of modern amenities to vintage Jag

A company devoted to restoring the classic Jaguar E-Type is moving beyond restoration and into “reimagining.” E-Type UK’s Unleashed brand is bringing the E-Type up to date with more powerful engines, updated chassis, and beautifully refinished cabins. Think of them like the Singer of Jaguars.

For those worried about the company “ruining” a classic, E-Type UK started with a Series 3 car. Those are the later, large-bumper cars that maintain the E-Type’s classic shape but were traditionally less loved and less valuable.

The transformation starts by boring out the 5.3L V12 to 6.1L and fitting it with a ceramic-coated 12-branch exhaust. A bespoke fuel injection system feeds the enhanced motor to make 400 hp, a massive increase over the factory’s claimed 272.

A five-speed manual transmission is installed to send the power to the rear wheels while new four-piston brakes are fitted to help bring the quicker Jag to a stop. A fully adjustable suspension brings new dampers and torsion bars to improve both ride and handling, while E-Type UK has made a host of durability modifications to make it a better grand tourer.

The styling changes begin with a custom chrome front bumper that has been simplified from the factory part. The front grille is also custom-designed, though it remains in the spirit of the original Series 3 part instead of going back to the original. The Unleashed adds even more louvres to the hood for cooling. The car adds 16-inch wire wheels to help fit the larger brakes.

Oddly, LED headlights have been fitted. Their LED running light function definitely makes the cars stand out, but it’s a look that’s bound to polarize viewers.

Inside, the E-Type has custom-made leather seats with hand-stitched hides and top-quality leather. The seats are heated for winter driving as well. Modern trim inside includes a piano black dashboard and aluminum center console as well as updated chrome gauges.

Power locks have been fitted along with a start button, power windows, heated windshield, air conditioning, and modern infotainment.

Each of the E-Type UK Unleashed Series 3 cars will see a 4,000 process to complete the restoration and upgrades. Costs start from £325,000 plus the donor Jag.
