The AC Cobra Series 4-electric delivers 617 horsepower and 320 kilometers of range (200 miles)
The AC Cobra is a legendary car for many enthusiasts and has delivered an excessively sporty drive and a ton of power since its introduction in 1962. Now, a firm in England offers to convert the AC Cobra into an electric car.
The AC Cobra Series 4-electric takes the typical body of an AC Cobra model, more precisely the AC Cobra 378 Superblower Mk IV sold in limited quantities in 1998. The big difference is that the engine is entirely electric. The electric motor in question develops 617 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque, and allows the car to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.8 seconds.
A 54-kWh battery takes care of powering the engine and provides 320 kilometers of range.
One of the key elements of the AC Cobra has always been the reduced weight. The AC Cobra Electric make sure to maintain this characteristic with a weight of only 1190 kilos despite the presence of the battery. The car will be offered in England starting at around $ 250,000 CAD or $210,000 US. The first deliveries will begin in summer 2021.
This is the latest example of a classic converted to electric done right. Yesterday we brought you the news of a Miata EV conversion that, like this AC Cobra, managed to keep the weight down.
