Electrify Canada Switches to Kilowatt-Hour Pricing Model

Electrify Canada announces an innovative, station-specific pricing structure based on kilowatt-hours (kWh). Slated to be operational from January 9, 2024, this initiative marks a more equitable and clear-cut billing method for EV users nationwide.

This approach to EV charging comes as a response to the growing demand for fairness and transparency in the electric vehicle industry. With Electrify Canada’s new kWh-based pricing, drivers will be charged solely for the electricity consumed during charging, rather than the duration of the charge. This method aligns seamlessly with recent regulatory adjustments, enabling energy-based pricing at compatible DC fast charging stations.

Robert Barrosa, the president and CEO of Electrify Canada and Electrify America, underscores the significance of this change: “Electric vehicle owners appreciate the straightforwardness of kilowatt-hour pricing. It allows them to pay precisely for the energy used to power their EVs. We are excited to introduce a more straightforward and equitable billing structure across the Electrify Canada network.”

Adapting to local market dynamics, the transition to station-specific rates will vary based on location, reflecting Electrify Canada’s efforts to maintaining high-quality service nationwide. This change is not just a shift in billing but a strategic move towards adapting to the diverse energy markets across Canada.

Moreover, Electrify Canada continues to offer value to its customers through the Pass+ membership. By subscribing for a monthly fee of $7, customers can enjoy a 20% discount on charging costs (excluding idle fees) across the network.

The most efficient way for EV drivers to leverage these competitive new rates is through the Electrify Canada mobile app. This app is a one-stop solution, enabling users to locate charging stations, view specific station pricing, check charger availability, initiate and monitor their charging sessions.

Electrify Canada’s move to kWh pricing is more than just a change in billing—it promotes a more sustainable, transparent, and user-friendly EV charging future. For detailed pricing information, customers are encouraged to use the Electrify Canada mobile app.
