Mustang GT makes an extra 30 hp
Ecoboost 2.3L four an all-new engine
Worried that the 2024 Ford Mustang isn’t going to make any more power than it did in 2023? Don’t be. Ford has your Christmas present all wrapped up in the form of the 500-horsepower Dark Horse and the regular GT will make more power than last year as well.
Though reports based on insider information and a leaked window sticker suggested the S650 Ford Mustang wouldn’t offer any extra power, Ford has wisely decided that wouldn’t be the case.
Instead, the Ford Mustang Dark Horse will be the most powerful non-Shelby Mustang ever. The 5.0L V8 will make 500 hp and 418 lb-ft of torque thanks to upgrades including a specially balanced crankshaft and forged rods. The camshafts are stronger too, letting the engine stay closer to its 7,500 rpm redline for longer periods of time without damage. You know, like it would on the track.
The regular old 5.0L Ford Mustang GT gets more power too. The GT will make 486 hp and 418 lb-ft of torque if you get the optional active valve exhaust. Without that special loud mode, the GT will still make 480 horses. 30 more than the outgoing car was capable of.
The fourth-gen 5.0L Coyote motor will have dual intake and dual throttle body induction along with an upgraded oil pan and structural improvements. The higher flow rates of the new intake help make more power and reduce losses.
Lastly, 2.3L EcoBoost buyers get a power bump as well. With 315 hp and 350 lb-ft, the EcoBoost four makes five hp more than last year. It’s also the most powerful non-V8 Mustang ever. Despite the same displacement, the 2.3L engine is all new, Ford says, and should have improved fuel economy as well as more power. The 2024 Ford Mustang goes on sale starting next summer.
