Faster Superfast gets named May 5th
818 hp, 9,500 rpm
Ferrari is readying a new special version of the 812 Superfast. It doesn’t have its own name yet, but it will have the most powerful engine of any Ferrari road car with a V12 that will scream to 9,500 rpm. It also gets a new Side Slip Control plus a moustache and louvres.
818 hp, Ferrari says up from 798 hp in the standard Ferrari 812 Superfast. Does that make this Ultrafast? Uberfast? Anything but Plaid, but we’ll find out for sure on May 5th when the full technical info is revealed. For now, we know that the power figure is the highest of any road Ferrari, as is the 9,500 rpm redline. The power comes from a new exhaust as well as a new valve timing mechanism and redesign of “many of the engine’s key components.”
The powertrain is paired with independent steering for all four wheels, which Ferrari doesn’t detail the operation of but says that it will add agility and precision as well as “unparalleled responsiveness” to steering. A new Side Slip Control dynamics system, version 7.0, is meant to help the driver make the most of the changes.
More carbon fibre, inside and out, is meant to reduce weight compared with the Superfast, while a complete aero redesign includes the covered rear screen, a single aluminum piece instead of glass, with vortex generators as well as the new carbon blade moustache that crosses the hood and is intended to make the car look wider and more compact.
Inside, it’s much the same as the 812 Superfast, with the same dash and door interfaces, though the door panels are redone to lose weight and there is a new H-gate themed centre tunnel.
