Three cars, three trucks, and three SUVs are in the running for the three prizes.
These vehicles have been selected from an initial pool of 52 candidates.
The winners will be announced on January 4th.
The finalists for the 2024 North American Car, Truck, and SUV of the Year (NACTOY) awards have been announced, leaving only three vehicles in the running for each category.
Distributed each year by a panel of 50 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada, these titles aim to reward new vehicles that stand out due to their innovation, performance, design, value, and driver satisfaction.
Starting from a pool of 52 candidates, the NACTOY panel chose the 25 best new vehicles of 2024 back in September at the Detroit Auto Show.
From these vehicles have been chosen the 9 finalists that have now been announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show, with three vehicles in each of the Car, Truck, and SUV categories.
Starting with the cars, the panel has highlighted the Honda Accord, the Toyota Prius (and Prius Prime), as well as the Hyundai IONIQ 6.
In the truck category, the Chevrolet Silverado EV, the Ford Super Duty, and the Chevrolet Colorado are the finalists, while the SUVs that have been shortlisted are the Genesis Electrified GV70, the Kia EV9, and the Volvo EX30.
Each of these nine finalists will be re-evaluated by the jury in the coming weeks in order for the NACTOY panel to pick only one winner in each category, which will be crowned 2024 North American Car of the Year, 2024 North American Truck of the Year, and 2024 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year.
As in the last few years, electric vehicles occupy a large part of the list, with five out of nine vehicles being powered solely by electrons.
In addition, the Toyota Prius is famously only available with a hybrid or plug-in hybrid powertrain, and the Honda Accord is also available with an electrified engine.
The winners of the 2024 NACTOY Awards will be announced on the 4th of January at an event held in Pontiac, Michigan.
