It will be coupled to the boosted straight-6-cylinder engine.
The 2023 GR Supra will include enhanced drive dynamics as well.
Toyota will offer a limited A91-MT Edition model.
Suddenly, the Toyota GR Supra is ultra-hot again. The Supra’s rebirth back in 2019 has been anything but smooth for Toyota. Sure, enthusiasm was huge early on but much of it turn to criticism if only because the 5th generation car was more BMW than Toyota. Interest fizzled out but it’s back on now that the GR Supra will finally get a manual transmission.
It really does look right at home in the GR Supra center console, no? This newly developed 6-speed manual gearbox will be fitted as an option to the turbocharged 382-horsepower 3.0-litre I6 engine. Buyers will need to select the Premium as the 2.0, with the 4-cylinder engine, will continue on with only an automatic transmission.
The 3-pedal box will feature Toyota’s Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) which is designed to assist shifts by keeping engine speeds steady upon up- or downshifts. Although it’s not specified in the press release, we assume it will also include a rev-matching function for downshifts. The iMT is set as the default but, if the driver prefers, it can be switched off in Sport mode.
As well, Toyota’s retuned the car’s TRAction Control (TRAC) system to counter wheelspin but not solely in the traditional way. The TRAC system is regulated in such a way as to always find a balance between agility and stability even when exiting an apex under heavy acceleration. Other means have been put into place to increase driving pleasure including a re-tuned track mode.
All 2023 GR Supra 3.0 models, both AT and MT versions, will get a retuned suspension for improved roll balance and ride comfort, an updated electric power steering, and an active rear sport differential standard. The 3.0 Premium MT will feature new 19-inch forged aluminum wheels, a red and black leather-trimmed interior, full colour heads up display, an acoustically tuned 12-speaker JBL sound system, and Qi Wireless charger standard.
While the A91 GR Supra Premium with the 6M will not be “limited”, Toyota Canada will offer a 50 unit limited-run model that features specific equipment. It will include: An exclusive Cognac leather-trimmed seats, GR logoed Alcantara shift knob, and a 12-speaker acoustically tuned premium JBL sound system. On the outside, a red “Supra” Badge and red GR Supra emblazoned calipers punctuate its extreme, condensed design. It will be offered in two exclusive colours, Matte White and Sparkling Copper Gray, and comes equipped with unique forged 19-inch Frozen Gunmetal Gray wheels. Under the hood, red strut tower braces add one more accent to the already bold Supra.
The new 2023 Toyota GR Supra will be priced this summer and the cars are set to arrive later this year.
