First Ferrari EV Spotted Testing In Italy

First electric Ferrari spotted

  • Small crossover to be first electric Ferrari?

  • Prancing electric horse caught testing

Ferrari‘s first electric has been spotted testing around around the company’s HQ, and it’s not what we’re expecting. The spy shots show a highly modified Maserati, suggesting that it could end up being not just a compact crossover, but that it could share many components with its sibling brand.

We shouldn’t be surprised that Ferrari’s first EV is looking like a compact crossover. The Purosangue already breached the crossover line for the brand, and, frankly, convincing buyers to pick up a second crossover that’s also their EV seems to make sense. SUV buyers might not mind that they’re not getting that trademark combustion howl as much as sports car shoppers would.

The test mule spotted by Derek.Photography on Instagram is a highly-modified Maserati Levante dressed in camouflage. It has aero-style wheels that are almost certainly not bound for production and headlights that appear to have been snagged from the Ferrari Roma.

It’s an oddball look, but as a test mule that’s not really a surprise. The real point here is to keep developing the powertrain and possibly the chassis. It’s the electric motors, battery, and all of that tech that are being put through their paces.

Expect figures better than those of the Maserati Grecale Folgore, the brand’s first electric SUV, though maybe not the 1,200 horsepower we expect from the Granturismo Folgore.
