First Official Pics Show Off Hyundai Elantra N

Elantra N gets N looks, more performance

  • Elantra gets big brakes, big wheels, and big performance Michelin tires

  • Full reveal of latest N model expected soon

Hyundai is teasing us with an N car once again. This time it’s the Elantra N, which will be the sixth N model for the automaker and help fills in its portfolio of compact cars and crossovers that make driving fun again.

The N is based on the latest Hyundai Elantra, but it gets tweaks to make it fit in with the rest of the N lineup. Not to be confused with the N-Line, which are Hyundai’s sporty-looking models but not the serious hot ones.

With this teaser, Hyundai is showing off 19-inch wheels wearing Michelin Pilot Sport 4S performance tires. They’re a wide 245/35R19 tire, giving this compact plenty of grip. Inside the special wheels are a set of N-logo front brake calipers that look to have room for at least a pair of pistons inside them.

The Hyundai Elantra N will also have bright red N-badge side skirts that tie it into the other N models visually. The sills are also functional, Hyundai says, that help channel airflow to improve aerodynamic performance. Same goes for a special rear wing that is meant to increase high speed stability.

That’s all we know for now about the 2022 Hyundai Elantra N, though we expect it to have the same 276 hp 2.0L turbo-four that is under the hood of the Veloster N. Expect a limited-slip front differential and adaptive shocks just like that car as well. And, of course, the Hyundai N Grin Mode that sharpens all of the chassis settings to make the car just the little bit more enjoyable to drive.

Hyundai said we’ll find out more about the car “in the coming weeks,” so we expect to see the Elantra N on sale by the end of the year or very early in the next.
