Electric vehicle maker Fisker merges with Spartan Energy Acquisition for $2.9 billion
Deal confirms Fisker Ocean EV production for 2022
Fisker is on its way and the Fisker Ocean electric crossover is closer than ever.
Thanks to a merger with Spartan Energy Acquisition Corp, Fisker is bringing in almost $1 billion in capital to continue development of its upcoming electric SUV.
The deal values Fisker at 2.9 billion, not bad considering their first product is still two years away. Fisker was reborn in 2016 by Henrik Fisker and plans to release the Fisker Ocean at the end of 2022.
The Fisker Ocean will offer between 250 and 300 miles (400 and 480 kilometres) of range, but it’s its price that stands out. Fisker says the Ocean will retail for $37,500 before tax credits, and will be available for under $400 a month.
The Ocean will also include a solar roof panel that can up the range to over 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometres) on a clear, sunny day. Last but not least, Fisker says the Ocean can accelerate to 60 mph (97 km/h) in just 2.8 seconds.
It all sounds great, but we were a little skeptical the Fisker Ocean would actually happen because of a lack of funds. That problem seems to be in the past now, and it’s very likely the 2022 Fisker Ocean will arrive as intended.
