42,000 copies of new electric crossover expected next year
Production taking place at contracted facility in Austria
Fisker has just made a big announcement for its line of electric vehicles. No, it’s not a new model, it’s something much more concrete. The Fisker Ocean electric SUV has just entered production, meaning deliveries should begin soon.
Henrik Fisker, the company’s founder, is no stranger to the challenges of starting a new car company. This is not his first time around, and lessons have been learned.
The Fisker Ocean is being built at a factory in Austria, but it’s not the company’s own. Wisely, the Ocean is being built and assembled by Magna Steyr, a company that already builds vehicles for the likes of BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, and even Toyota. The move should help greatly improve initial build quality and reliability, as Fisker isn’t also forced to build its first plant from scratch.
Fisker will be ramping production slowly nonetheless, with just 300 expected in Q1 of 2023. The number should increase to 8,000 in Q2, and hit just over 42,000 for the year.
The company says it has more than 63,000 reservations already, and two trim levels are sold out for the U.S. for 2023.
The Fisker Ocean offers up to an estimated 570 km of range, all-wheel drive, and a 17.1-inch screen that can rotate from portrait to landscape mode. The first 5,000 vehicles built will offer a special Ocean One trim with styling changes only offered to those initial customers.
