The new Fisker Ocean will feature a fully electric powertrain as well as recycled and vegan materials.
Henrik Fisker will officially unveil his latest creation on January 4, 2020. It’s upcoming fully electric, luxury-oriented SUV will make its online debut as a running production prototype, and it will be called the Fisker Ocean.
The Ocean’s powertrain output has yet to be detailed, but the company is targeting a maximum driving range between 250 and 300 miles (400 and 480 kilometres), thanks to a 80-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. A solar panel running the whole length of the SUV’s roof will regenerate a small amount of energy, and is said to provide an extra 1,600 kilometres of driving a year.
Fisker also flaunts its new SUV as the world’s most sustainable vehicle ever produced. The interior’s eco-suede upholstery will be made from recycled polyester fibres and plastics, while rubber waste thrown away during tire manufacturing will be repurposed to create cockpit materials. In addition, the vehicle’s carpeting will be made from regenerated nylon from abandoned fishing nets pulled from the ocean, and the interior will also be composed of 100 % polycarbonate polyurethane surfaces and 100 % reinforced rayon backing.
“For the past two years, we have been working quietly on an emotionally appealing and affordable luxury electric vehicle that will serve as a flagship for driving positive global change – from the most sustainable materials possible across the supply chain to practicality that will change the perception of what an EV can be,” said Henrik Fisker, chairman and CEO of Fisker Inc.
With an overall length of 4,640 millimetres, the five-passenger Fisker Ocean is about the same size as most luxury compact SUVs on the market, such as the Audi Q5, the Lexus NX, the Mercedes-Benz GLC and the Acura RDX.
Fisker also points out that its new SUV will be leased through a mobile app, and that service and maintenance will be included in the monthly payment. Said mobile app will launch on November 27, the same day interested customers will be able to make a reservation for the vehicle.
Production of the Fisker Ocean should start at the end 2021, with deliveries beginning in 2022.
Fisker Inc. has other projects as well, such as the EMotion EV sports car that can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in less than three seconds, reaches a top speed of 160 mph (256 km/h) and boasts a driving range of more than 400 miles (640 kilometres). It’s also working on the Orbit, a fully electric and autonomous shuttle for airports, campuses and more.
